Electric Double Layer Capacitors
Energy Storage Mechanism: Electric double layer capacitors store energy by creating an electrical double layer at the electrolyte-electrode interface. This double layer consists of two layers: the inner layer, known as the Helmholtz layer, forms due to the adsorption of ions on the electrode surface, and the outer layer, known as the diffuse layer, contains ions that are mobile in the electrolyte. The separation of charges in this double layer creates a capacitance that allows energy storage.
